Today President Obama began to flesh out details of his plan for a major overhaul of the country's education system. One of his key "tiers" was a focus around different measurement and testing standards. He urges states to develop tests "that don't simply measure whether students can fill in a bubble on a test but whether they possess 21st century skills like problem-solving and critical thinking, entrepreneurship and creativity".
At Giant Campus, we've long been proponents of these skills. We've built these critical skills into each and every one of our courses. Skills like problem-solving, communcation, critical thinking, creativity, and higher order thinking. These are the tools that will makes students successful in the 21st Century. With our portfolio and project based learning approach, students are able to practice and learn these essential skills.
As an entreprenuer, I'm most excited about the launch of one of our new courses: Project CEO. This is a brand new course that is all about entrepreneurship and critical business skills. Students learn the ins and outs of starting a business, and running a business. How to document plans, and all the necessary tools needed to build a great idea into a great business. Thanks Obama for highlighting the importance of business skills and entrepreneurship!
